A Strange Fact Revealed

The current World Cup 2006 winner in Germany is – Italy. The colour of jersey they were wearing while playing against France was blue – home team colour…….

The rotation of wearing a specific colour in a professional football match is that if two teams have the same official colour, the host will get to wear their traditional colour and the visitor will wear their away colour unless the colour of their home jersey is a different one as opposed to the host’s. Of course, this does not always happen but hard to give rise to variance as well. Which team would get to wear their home jersey if both teams play each other on a neutral ground? The definitive answer is beyond an ordinary man knowledge; a fair call should be made by coin-tossing-like process.

A more telling hard fact as mentioned above should be made reference to recent European big football stages. A football fan should not be too unfamiliar with one of the most if not the most unlikely final triumph – 2005 Champion League eventual winner Liverpool, on that night in Istanbul Liverpool were wearing red; the club traditional colour. On the counter end, AC Milan were on white; their away jersey. Approximately one year later, Barcelona and Arsenal both play each other for the same European trophy, Barcelona emerged victorious on that occasions. The night on Paris Barcelona were wearing red and blue, their club official colour and Arsenal were in yellow; their seasonal away shirt.

Now let’s rewind the clock back to 2004 Champion League final between Porto FC vs Monaco, the winner was Porto who was wearing its own official colour – blue and white. Still not convinced? What about the Manchester United’s famous trebles? On the road to completing their last and third trophy was the Champion League in 1999. So there they were achieving an undeniably successful feast wearing their traditional colour red and the one missing out that night was Bayern Munich who wore its away colour – white.

Back to World Cup stages, Brazil, France, and again Brazil all won in 1994, 1998, & 2002 respectively, wearing their respective traditional home colour though their counterpart had theirs as well.

Coincidence or conspiracy?
